Junior Mermaids
Where the training begins!
Junior Mermaids is a program for swimmers ages 6 and up who would like to learn the skills of synchronized swimming but are not yet ready for the difficulty and commitment of our competition team. Minimum swim ability of crossing the length of the pool unaided by a lane line, floats or the wall is required to be in the program. This is a safety issue!
Junior Mermaids will practice Mondays and Thursdays from 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm until school ends and then Mondays and Thursdays from 8:45am to 10am through the end of the season. Junior Mermaids will be invited (not required) to participate in 1-4 meets during the season. Junior Mermaids will be performing in the Water Spectacular alongside the competition team on Tuesday, July 21st. There may also be a couple additional weekend practices as we prepare for the show!
Our Junior Mermaids program allows us to provide more hands on coaching and instruction with the young swimmers to help them develop a foundation of skills that will make them great future competitors in the sport of Synchronized Swimming. We plan to have 1 coach for every 4 to 5 swimmers in our program so that we can minimize time waiting on the side of the pool for help and ensure the safety of all these young swimmers. Older swimmers from our competition team will also be helping in the training of the juniors.
There will be a space limit to this program in order to ensure safety and quality coaching. All Juniors must have coach approval prior to signing up. Please check our preseason clinic and tryouts schedule or email coach Krista for more details. [email protected]
Once swimmers in the Junior Mermaids have mastered some basics and can perform a small swim assessment (administered by the teams head coach) they will be recommended to join the competition team. For some swimmers this may be 1 year and for others it may be more.
REGISTRATION COST: $110 per swimmer for 10 week season
Additionally, each family will also be responsible for helping with costume costs and team gift costs by participating in our fundraising to bring in at least $50 profit to the team, or finding a sponsorship for the team of at least $50, or contributing $50 directly to the team to cover the costs out of pocket. Parents are encouraged to volunteer, help us seek sponsorships for costumes, and help with fundraisers but there is no required number of participation hours.
